SKILLS TAUGHT
A solid foundation can be laid in two-weeks upon which you can build
upon through continuing study and on the job training. We have selected
a few key procedures of which mastery will come with experience. In
addition, we will maintain e-mail communication with you in the field to
help you deal with whatever problems or questions you may face.
Study materials will be sent to you in advance to help prepare you for
the course. The specific skills that you will learn consist of:
Through Lectures, Demonstrations, Laboratory and Clinical Practice
*Exams for caries and gingivitis.
*Fluoride varnish application
*A.R.T. restorations (filling teeth with hand instruments)
*Sealants (sealing teeth to prevent caries)
*Infection control
*Instrument sharpening
*Setting up a simplified dental clinic
Post Self- Study Assignments (accomplished subsequent to the course)
*Oral health promotion
*Administration
*Oral cancer screening
OPTIONAL FOR FULL-TIME MISSIONARIES:
* Periodontal Scaling (cleaning) Scaling is not appropriate for
short-term missions due to the extensive time that is required to learn
and master. In addition, periodontal procedures require an
ongoing maintenance program to achieve optimum oral health which is not
feasible in the short- term setting.
THE PRIORITY
In our program, the important thing is not WHAT
we do, but HOW we do it. Please see
our "PRIORITY" and
"POWERFUL" pages.
